Blepharoplasty
Cosmetic eyelid surgery, called blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, restoring firmness to the area surrounding the eyes and making you look more rested and alert.
Specifically, eyelid surgery can treat:
• Loose or sagging skin that creates folds or hides the natural contour of the upper eyelid
• Excess skin that hangs down from the upper eyelid, sometimes impairing vision
• Excess fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the upper eyelids
• Bags under the eyes
• Droopiness of the lower eyelids, showing white below the iris
• Excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid
Procedural steps:
An incision within the natural crease of the upper eyelid allows access to remove excess skin, muscle and underlying fatty tissue. Using an incision inside the lower eyelid, fat is removed or redistributed and muscle modified to correct a baggy lower eyelid.
An incision just below the lower lash line allows excess skin to be removed. Laser resurfacing may be used to smooth lower lid skin.
Your results:
Bruising should subside in 5-10 days and swelling should subside in 2-4 weeks. Final results may appear in 1-2 months. Incision lines will continue to refine and fade for 1 year.

Brow Lift
If you are bothered by expression lines or other signs of aging in the brow region, a brow lift may be right for you. A brow lift:
• Minimizes the creases that develop across the forehead, or those that occur high on the bridge of the nose, between the eyes
• Improves what are commonly referred to as frown lines, vertical creases that develop between the eyebrows
• Repositions a low or sagging brow that is hooding the upper eyelid
• Raises the eyebrows to a more alert and youthful position
Rejuvenation procedures typically performed in conjunction with a brow lift include:
• Eyelid surgery to rejuvenate aging eyes
• Facelift to correct aging changes in the mid- to lower face and neck regions
• Skin resurfacing techniques
Also known as a forehead lift, a brow lift minimizes the creases that develop across the forehead, or those that occur high on the bridge of the nose; improves what are commonly referred to as frown lines; and repositions a low or sagging brow
The Procedure:
A brow lift may sometimes be performed using an endoscope (surgical video device) and special instruments placed through small incisions made within the hairline. This allows the tissue and muscle beneath the skin to be repositioned, altered or removed, correcting the source of visible creases and furrows in the forehead.
Correction of a low-positioned or sagging brow may be made with or without the use of an endoscope through incisions at the temples and in the scalp.
This technique may be done in conjunction with incisions hidden within the natural crease of the upper eyelids to eliminate frown lines between the brows, on or above the bridge of the nose.
The incision lines from a brow lift are well concealed within the hair or natural contours of the face unless they are placed at the hairline to shorten the forehead.
Results appear gradually as swelling and bruising subside to reveal smoother forehead skin and a more youthful, restful appearance.

Facial Implants
If you would like to change the contours of your face, you might want to consider implants. They can improve proportion and profiles and correct imbalance caused by injury or hereditary traits.
Procedural steps:
Appropriately sized and shaped implants most commonly in the cheek, chin, jaw or nasal region will be carefully selected and placed. Incisions inside the mouth or discreetly placed external incisions create space in soft tissues for implant positioning and support.
Generally performed as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia with or without sedation; general anesthesia may be recommended.
Your results:
Almost immediate, initial swelling should subside in 2-4 weeks and dissipate in 1-2 months as final results appear.

Injectable Fillers
If you would like to restore facial contours, or reduce the appearance of lines and creases, injection therapy with soft tissue fillers may be right for you.
An improved appearance is visible almost immediately, although minor swelling or bruising may appear at the injection sites.
With some fillers, a slightly “over-filled” appearance may be initially present. These conditions will resolve within a few hours, or at most a few days. The duration may be as long as a few weeks with injection of one’s own harvested fat.
Injectable fillers can:
• Plump thin lips
Lip Augmentation
• Enhance shallow contours
• Soften facial creases and wrinkles
Line Filling
Nasolabial Folds
Improve the appearance of recessed scars
Procedural steps:
A pharmaceutical filler substance or your own fat is injected below the skin surface to fill hollow areas and creases, or plump the lips and back of the hands. Fat is typically taken from the inner thigh or abdomen.
Your results:
Swelling should dissipate in 2-5 days, or 1-2 weeks with fat injections. This procedure produces temporary results, lasting a few months to several years or more, based on the filler used, treatment site and individual patient factors. Some products may be permanent.
Types of Fillers:
Hyaluronic Acid is a natural substance found in our bodies. It is well suited to plump thin lips and fill facial creases such as nasolabial folds. It may also be appropriate for some surface wrinkles and concave scars. The results may last 6 months or longer.
Collagen is a natural protein that supports the skin. Injectable collagen formulas derived from human dermis include Cosmoderm® or Cosmoplast®. Zyderm® and Zyplast® are forms of bovine collagen that, unlike human derived collagen, require prior allergy testing. The results may last 2 to 4 months
Hydroxylapatite is a mineral-like compound found naturally in human bones, suspended in a gel-like formulation. It is the heaviest of facial fillers and is recommended to fill deeper creases such as nasolabial folds, marionette lines and frown lines, as well as to enhance fullness of the cheeks and other facial contours.
Human fat, harvested from your own body, can be reinjected to enhance facial fullness, fill deep creases and to build up shallow contours. Fat injection requires a more extensive procedure than other injectable fillers because it uses liposuction techniques to extract the fat prior to injection.

Palomar System
We recently added to our services the following laser and light-based aesthetic treatments:
• Photofacials (the clearance of pigmented and vascular lesions on the face, chest, arms and other areas, resulting in improved skin appearance)
Pulsed light is similar to a laser in that it uses an intense beam of light, but the difference is in the comfort and speed of treatment.”
Pulsed-light systems have the flexibility to provide varied hair removal treatments on different types of skin and hair. The systems remove unwanted hair by targeting the hair follicles. The specific wavelengths of light are absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted to heat. The heat then disables the cells responsible for growing new hair.
Pulsed light treatments are significantly more effective than such temporary solutions as shaving and waxing. Most patients describe the pulses as a ‘snapping’ sensation, which causes mild discomfort at most. After the treatment, there may be some redness for a few days, but that quickly fades and the patient can enjoy the effects of permanent hair reduction.”
• Permanent hair reduction (for legs, back, face, etc.)
This process employs intense pulsed light to perform the most effective photofacial and skin rejuvenation treatments available.
Pulsed light is similar to a laser in that it uses an intense beam of light. A chief difference is that pulsed light treats a larger body area than a laser, all the while being gentler on the skin. The process makes use of a variety of patented technologies that aid patient comfort and maximize effectiveness with specific wavelengths of light, depending on the treatment and result desired.
After the treatment, there may be some redness for a few days, but that quickly fades and the patient can enjoy clearer skin, with a significantly improved appearance.
If you live with unwanted facial or body hair, sun spots, age spots, or facial veins, you may be surprised to find that these conditions can all be treated with safe and effective laser and light-based technology.
If you or someone you know would like to learn more about our StarLux aesthetic treatments, please feel free to ask your physician.
